Helping Children Through Grief (Grief Reflections)

September 12, 2014 By Nathalie Himmelrich 5 Comments

Welcome to our fifth gathering that we held for Grief Reflections. Above is the conversation that we had discussing the topic of HELPING CHILDREN THROUGH GRIEF.

All people affected by loss are grieving.

In this episode of Grief Reflections we discuss how we as parents can support our children through the grieving process, wether it is the loss of their sibling or the loss of someone else.

In this video, Carly spoke about how to explain cremation/burial to other children. Here is the link she mentioned: http://stillstandingmag.com/2013/08/healing-cremation-vs-burial/

Carly also has a page called ‘Siblings and Grief’ where she lists some books: http://carlymarieprojectheal.com/healing/siblings-and-grieving

Nathalie suggested a book called Raising An Emotionally Intelligent Child: The Heart of Parenting by John Gottman. It is listed here on my bookshelf of Goodreads.

If you would like please add to this conversation: Please feel welcome to blog or write about it and share the link to your posts in the comment section.

Thank you so much for your support in being here. We are looking forward to future gatherings.

With love,

Carly & Nathalie

I would love to hear more about helping siblings dealing with loss. Any other suggestions?

I assume you, as the mother, help your children deal with the loss of their sibling?

My local area is in Fairbanks, AK.
The five resources i chose are:
    • Hospice of the Tanana Valley 907-474-0311.
Is a place for patients who are going to die and who can spend their last few times feeling good, seeing family, and talking to counsellors.
    • Fairbanks Crisis Line 907-452-4357
Is a place for people to receive crisis intervention and suicide prevention, mobile outreach, survivors support and other support groups.
    • SpruceWind Healing Arts 907-457-2254
This place offers support for people who are in pain. They have specialists in healing from grief or loss.
    • Ms. Sherry Byers Holistic medical clinic 907-474-2056
Patients receive support in dealing with depression, anxiety, and trauma.
    • Adult Diabetes Support Group Fairbanks Memorial Hospital 907-457-1557
Allows for others suffering from diabetes to get support while being able to communicate with the American Diabetes Association.

I chose these five resources because it offers people a wide range of places to go, but places that can help their special needs they need help with.
