The question so many bereaved parents have asked me.
I recently wrote on Instagram:
Did you know that your a grief warrior?
Not that fighting off grief would make you a warrior, no. It’s the ability to endure the intensity of all the emotions surrounding the loss that makes you a warrior.
It takes immense strength, both physical, emotional and spiritual. I’m not even sure I knew the strength, especially emotional strength, I had before I knew grief.
Be aware of this fierceness inside of you, not one that makes you look though and invincible but beautifully human, raw and vulnerable.
Here is the view of fellow bereaved mother Tiffany:
How does anyone enduring tragedies get up in morning and greet the day? How do we find hope again? How do we build our life again? We do it slowly, gently, because we know the reality is at any moment it can all come crashing down. We do it one second, one minute at a time. We do it with a soft brave heart. We do it in honor of what was lost, not in spite of it. We do it holding close to us what is dear and true while letting everything else fall away. We have to lean on others. We have to hold on to the blessings that we still have in our life, because they are still there, even if we cannot see them right now. We do it for our children and for all we have lost, to make them proud of the person we have become. These transformations take place in the blink of an eye and yet continue into eternity.
