Daughtry – Gone Too Soon
An excerpt from Daughtry’s website: “That extra space has the effect of allowing the words to shine more brightly, which became important to Chris when he realised that some of the songs had gone deeper lyrically than anything he had written to date. The birth of his twins in November 2010 “definitely sparked something in me,” he says, and led to such moving ballads as “Gone Too Soon.” At one point during the writing session, Chris had to walk out to collect himself. “The song is about realizing that today could have been the day that someone would be blowing out the candles,” Chris says. “It just hit me pretty hard. I remember playing the demo for my brother and I turned around and he was bawling. I didn’t realise that my brother’s wife had suffered a miscarriage years before. It was a pretty emotional moment.” Read more here…
Eric Clapton – Tears in Heaven
“Tears in Heaven” is a ballad written by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings about the pain Clapton felt following the death of his four-year-old son, Conor, who fell from a window of the 53rd-floor New York apartment of his mother’s friend, on March 20, 1991. Clapton, who arrived at the apartment shortly after the accident, was visibly distraught for months afterwards. This song is one of Clapton’s most successful, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the U.S. The song also spent three weeks at #1 on the American adult contemporary chart in 1992.
Casey Barnes – Waiting on the Day
Drawing on personal experience Casey says ‘Waiting On The Day is a tribute to every parent who has endured the loss of a child whether that be before or after birth and the strength to face life again. This song is also for our baby Grace who we lost two years ago and will forever be in our hearts x’.
Casey is hoping that this song will provide support and comfort to any family who has experienced the loss of a child. It affects so many Australian families and is often a subject matter that people feel they can’t talk about. He hopes the track can offer other families hope through this time.
